Coir fiber is a natural one extracted from the husk of the coconut. Coir is the fibrous material that is found in-between the inner and outer hard shell of the coconut. These fiber cells are narrowly made of cellulose. In the immature stage, they are pale, and later on, a lignin layer will be formed which makes them yellowish and hardened.
Coconut coir fiber has good resistance to microbial action and saltwater damage. The main peculiarity of this product is that it doesn't require any chemical treatment. This coir is normally used in many cases to overcome erosion. When coir is woven to make geotextiles and placed where we need erosion control, this coir fiber helps by growing vegetation. This process is carried out by absorbing water and preventing topsoil from drying. Like other applications, this coconut coir fiber is used in products like mats, doormats, mattresses, brushes, and so on.
